Obituary

Thomas E. “Tom” McMurtrie, 67, of Snow Shoe, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born on January 10, 1953, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Helen M. (Green) McMurtrie. On October 26, 1974 at the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church, he married Bonnie L. Fye, who survives at home.

Tom was a 1971 graduate of the Bellefonte Area High School. He was of the Protestant faith. He was employed at the Cannon Instrument Company, leaving after many years of service.

Tom enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was a very talented oil painter and sign-maker, creating many beautiful paintings, as well as signs for local businesses. He was also a true jokester, known for telling stories, sharing a joke, or just making people laugh.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his two sons; Shaun T. McMurtrie of Bellefonte and Justin J. McMurtrie and his companion, Carly Szczesny, of State College, and one brother, Paul L. McMurtrie and his wife, Debbie, of Bellefonte.

Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Ginger McMurtrie.

Following Tom’s wishes, there will be no viewing. There will be graveside services on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11am at Askey Cemetery in Moshannon with Christine Simcisko officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe, PA 16874.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
