Obituary

He fought the fight. The battle’s won. On March 13, 2019, at 6:22pm, at the age of 77, our beloved Husband, Father, Pap, Brother-in-law, and Uncle Robert L. “Bob” Warner, joined his loved ones in Heaven. Born on November 25, 1941, in Philipsburg, he was the youngest child of George S. and Ruth Spotts Warner.
Bob was a 1959 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. It was there he met the love of his life and soulmate, Nancy Elaine Hoover. Bob and Nancy were married in Winchester, VA on November 30, 1963. From that time on, Bob referred to Nancy, lovingly, as “Hon”
Following his graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. He served from 1959 to 1962; and received an honorable discharge from active duty several months after being deployed aboard the USS Pandemus off the coast of Cuba during the October 1962 naval blockade of Soviet vessels and armament shipments. For his years of service, he earned the rank of BM3 and received the Good Conduct Medal.
Between 1963 and 1972, Bob worked for the Crain Lumber Company, Erie Technological Products, and the Penn Central Railroad. He joined the West Penn Power Company in 1972, retiring in 1997 after 25 years of service. He made a lot of great and lasting friendships while working at West Penn Power.
Bob and Nancy had an active, busy, and happy time together during his retirement years; which included a decade of providing loving support and dedicated care for Nancy’s mother, Janie. Janie, better known as “Gram” came to live with Bob and Nancy in 2000. Caring for Gram was not a chore for them, they cherished every moment.
Bob was a member of the Port Matilda United Methodist Church and the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church in Stormstown.
Bob enjoyed fishing, all levels of baseball, completing complex crossword puzzles, and the study of history and geography. He was great with driving directions. He was the human GPS before they became popular in vehicles. He was a passionate supporter of all Bald Eagle Area and Penn State sports teams. He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers on TV but also enjoyed attending the games.
But his greatest life passions centered on his family. Bob deeply loved and supported his children and grandchildren in their athletic, arts, and civic events and activities. He took enormous pride in hosting large family gatherings, picnics, and parties for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions. His favorite and specialty was the family’s Thanksgiving Day celebration; which always included his birthday cake for dessert.
Bob suffered a debilitating auto accident in 2010. As a result of that accident, Nancy became his caregiver and nursemaid. They walked through a valley. A valley only God could carry them through. It was filled with tears, deep love, laughter, and great joy. God encouraged them, nudged them, and then carried them every step of the path. God also rejoiced with them when Bob was able to successfully assemble the coffee percolator and brew a delicious cup of morning coffee.
In addition to his wife Nancy, Bob is survived by his four children: Todd Warner and his wife, Elaine, of Howard, Melissa Stine and her husband, Karl, of Stormstown, Tamara Housel and her husband, Garret, of Port Matilda, and Jayson Warner of Tyrone, GA; ten grandchildren: Sara Hackett and her husband, Brandon, Monica Hall, and her husband. Travis, Alaina Lucas and her husband, Tyler, Karen Warner, Rachel Warner, Josh Stine, Karly Stine, Katie Housel, Colton Housel, and Dylan Warner; and three great-grandchildren: Kaylee Hackett, Gracie Lucas, and Micah Lucas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers: Harrison “Bub” Spotts and George R. “Dick” Warner and one sister Marjorie L. Warner. Bob was the last of his generation.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 6-8pm and Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 10-11am at the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church in Stormstown. Funeral service will follow on Tuesday, at 11am, at the church with Pastor Todd Templeton, Pastor Steven Durr, and Pastor Donna Snyder officiating. Bob will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Grays Cemetery in Halfmoon Township
Memorial contributions can be made to the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church, 1776 Halfmoon Valley Road, Port Matilda, PA 16870 or Port Matilda United Methodist Church, PO Box 508, Port Matilda, PA 16870.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe, PA 16874. An online guest book can be signed or condolences to the family available at www.daughenbaughfuneralhome.com.
