Betty Ann (Musser) Gilliland, 85, of Linden Hall Road, Boalsburg, reunited with her husband in Heaven on Thursday, August 4, 2022. Born on February 15, 1937, on the family farm in Ferguson Township, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Edna Evelyn (Graham) Musser. On March 4, 1955, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, she married Robert Lee Gilliland, who preceded her in death on January 9, 2004.
Betty graduated from State College High School in 1954. In her earlier years, she worked as the secretary for the State College High School. She worked side by side with her husband on their farm, the Cedar Lee Farm, since 1960. Not only did she tend to crops, dairy cows, and percheron horses, she took care of their home and children.
Betty was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She was an honorary member of the Linden Hall Garden Club since 1963, with whom she held numerous offices and helped with many activities. She was a member of the Percheron Horse Association of America since 1983 and a charter member of the Pennsylvania Percheron Association, Inc, where she served as their secretary and treasurer for numerous years. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and canning for her family and friends. She was an excellent cook! She liked watching the various birds that would gather at the feeders she had out, but the hummingbirds were her favorite, and loved her percherons. She was strong willed and a hard worker, determined, faithful, and caring. She had taken care of loved ones her entire life, and she enjoyed doing it. Family came first and she loved them greatly.
Betty is survived by two sons, Gary R. Gilliland and his wife, Holly, of Boalsburg and Kenneth Lee Gilliland and his wife, Debra King, of Stormstown; one daughter, Christine Coe and her husband, Dave, of Hublersburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Sue Lane Dawson Zimmerman of Houserville, three nieces, and one nephew.
Along with her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Musser.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 11am – 12 noon at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc in Centre Hall. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon with Pastor Mike Covalt officiating. A graveside service will be at Boalsburg Cemetery, where Betty will be laid to rest.
